ABC turns to members for new headquarters
The most visible change for ABC this year
is the completion of its new ABC of Wisconsin office building in Madison.
This new building symbolizes the significant growth of the merit shop
construction industry in Wisconsin.
After
years of planning and months of construction, the ABC office, built
by ABC members for ABC members, is finished. The merit shop philosophy
of open competition and free enterprise played a key role in the construction
of the new ABC office.
After slight delays due to heavy rainfall
during the spring, Roberts Construction Associates, the general contractor
on the project, began construction on ABC's new home in June of 2000.
Many Chapter and Trust leaders were present for a groundbreaking ceremony
that month. Excited and enthusiastic, ABC members gathered to share
in this historic day for ABC.
With the previous ABC office located just
across the parking lot from the construction site, ABC staff and members
visited the project regularly. Monitoring the progress of the construction
site gave ABC staff appreciation for the day-to-day struggles encountered
by contractors.
A new home
The construction was complete in mid December
of 2000, with the ABC staff completely moved in by the end of the month.
The new 15,000-square-foot building provides additional work space for
the growing ABC staff, a beautiful conference room overlooking the city
of Madison, a complete reference library for members and a training
center suitable for ABC workshops and seminars. The building itself
is a testament to the talents and professionalism of merit shop contractors,
and in the spirit of this special section, it is definitely a project
of distinction.
Last July, ABC held a building dedication
to celebrate the completion of the new office. The ABC board of trustees
and other ABC leaders participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony to kick
off the event. More than 200 guests shared in the celebration of the
new building, including members from across the state, several past
presidents and ABC National President Kirk Pickerell.
With the opening of this new office building,
ABC will aid in the continued growth of the merit shop construction
industry in Wisconsin. ABC will continue to support open competition
and free enterprise and will continue to offer merit shop contractors
the services they need to succeed.
