To
provide:
- a qualifying
body to serve the individual in construction, the constructor,
who has achieved a recognized level of professional competence;
- opportunities
for the individual constructor to participate in the process
of developing quality standards of practice and to exchange ideas;
- leadership
in establishing and maintaining high ethical standards;
- encouragement
of equitable and professional relationships between the constructor
and all other entities in the construction process; and
- an environment
to enhance the overall standing of the construction profession.
Nationally,
the American Institute of Constructors was organized in 1970.
Today, there are 15 local chapters throughout North America.
In 1994, the AIC Constructor Certification Commission was organized
under the auspices of AIC to expand the constructor qualifying
process, offering an internationally recognized certification
program.
The Wisconsin
Chapter was chartered in 1994 and is headquartered in Milwaukee.
A variety of opportunities and activities are available through
this chapter.
AIC has
opportunities for individuals participating in the construction
industry, including:
- Superintendents
- Sales
representatives
- Estimators
- Marketing
professionals
- Project
managers
- Students
All constructors,
generals, subcontractors and suppliers are welcome to the membership.
AIC has established a defined ladder of opportunity with six
levels of membership. There is a means of entry at both the national
and local levels for individuals who are working at a professional
level in construction or studying in a construction degree-granting
program.
Activities
The Wisconsin
Chapter of AIC provides the ideal opportunity for professionals
to network with one another! The local chapter holds membership
meetings featuring guest speakers, construction-site tours and
dinners with networking time. Some previous site tours were:

New baseball stadium for the Brewers

a site specific accident prevention plan

One meeting
each year features a family-oriented activity, such as a visit
to the IMAX Theater (a follow-up of an earlier construction site
tour) or a tailgate party and baseball game. Each year, the chapter
presents the Constructor of the Year Award to an outstanding
participant in the Wisconsin construction industry.
