Mission Statement

MABA is a nonprofit trade organization dedicated to promoting a positive business environment by uniting, serving and representing all aspects of the building industry. The association's services and activities foster the professionalism of its members and provide a forum for education and information exchange for the benefit of the industry and the communities its members serve. MABA monitors and exerts influence on issues and regulations affecting the housing industry, particularly those related to availability and affordability. The Madison Area Builders Association is an affiliate of the Wisconsin Builders Association and the National Association of Home Builders. MABA is comprised of more thar 800 company members.

MABA activities

The Madison Area Builders Association sponsors three annual public-information and educational events: the Parade of Homes in early to mid-June, the Parade of Condominiums in early to mid-August and the MABA Home Products Show (March 2-4, 2001).

MABA also constructs the Annual Tunnel of Terror at the Henry Vilas Zoo during Halloween with proceeds from the Tunnel going to the zoo. To date, more that $250,000 has been raised to benefit the zoo's ReZOOvenation. MABA members also stay abreast of new developments in the construction industry, share ideas with one another and monitor government regulations affecting the affordability and availability of homes.

Win A House!

Madison Area Builders Association members consistently strive to give back to the community in which they do business. In the past 13 years, MABA has raised more than $250,000 for the Henry Vilas Zoo by sponsoring the annual Tunnel of Terror during Halloween.

In addition, MABA members have constructed a mobile Fire Safety House to train children how to escape a fire and children's playhouses to benefit the March of Dimes. In 1992, MABA members raised $150,000 from a house raffle for the benefit of the Ronald McDonald House.

This year, in their efforts to give back to the community, MABA members will once again build a house to be used as a prize in a fund-raising raffle. The raffle proceeds will benefit Transitional Housing Inc. THI, a 15-year-old nonprofit, volunteer-intensive organization, provides a variety of services in Dane County. THI provides emergency shelter, food, employment services and affordable transitional and permanent housing for those in need in Dane County. THI's primary mission is to meet the needs of homeless households in the Madison area through social service agencies designed to foster the transition into permanent housing and employment.

MABA's house raffle will raise funds for the Capital Campaign. With funds from the raffle, THI will secure additional property to help get more people out of temporary shelters and into housing.

MABA President J.R. Stolz explains: "MABA's partnership with THI on the raffle house project is a great fit. Helping raise funds to provide affordable housing for those in need really shows MABA's commitment to our motto: Building the Future Together. Despite how busy our members are, and despite the extra effort it will take to contribute to the project, this project will be a huge success."

The primary focus of fund raising for THI's capital campaign is THI's "transitional and permanent housing." With funds raised, THI will purchase property to help get more people out of temporary shelters and into housing. The Transitional Housing program currently offers housing at 17 Madison-area locations to families and individuals for up to two years or permanently, depending on the situation. During this time, THI helps residents manage money, establish themselves in jobs and complete training programs.

MABA's Raffle House Task Force has been organizing the details of making this raffle house a reality. Headed by President Elect Dick Wasserburger (Design Shelters), the task force includes First Vice President Jim Hottmann (Hottmann Construction), Secretary Tom Zimmer (Zimmer Builders), Dave Palosaari (Palosaari Carpentry, LLC), Phil Simon (Michael F. Simon Builders Inc.), Diane Benjamin (Benjamin Plumbing), Paul Sergenian (Sergenian's Floor Coverings Inc.), Jim Bourne (Midland Builders), Luann Quella (THI treasurer) and Steve Schooler (THI asssociate director).

MABA has begun building the THI Raffle House at 7033 Rockstream Drive in Glacier Crossing, approximately one block from the 2000 Parade of Homes site. The home, a three-bedroom colonial, valued at more than $200,000, will be raffled on Nov. 2 at the THI Annual Recognition Dinner at the Alliant Energy Center (formerly the Dane County Exposition Center). Call THI at 608-250-0380 or the MABA office at 608-288-1133 for a list of ticket outlets. Ticket prices are $10 or three tickets for $20.
