Background
and history
The National
Association of Minority Contractors - Wisconsin Chapter is a
chapter of the National Association of Minority Contractors headquartered
in Washington, D.C.
NAMC is
the national, full-service trade association representing the
interests of minority contractors. NAMC has more than 3,500 members
in 46 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S.
Virgin Islands. The association also advocates for the interests
of approximately 50,000 minority businesses seeking greater participation
in the construction and environmental industries nationwide.
NAMC-WI
represents a cross section of the diverse ethnic and social communities
found in Wisconsin. The board of directors, officers and committee
members represent the entire rainbow of nationalities and more
than 100 construction, environmental and manufacturing industries.
NAMC-WI
Aims to:
- promote
contract procurement opportunities for minority business enterprise,
or MBE, contractors in the public and private sectors;
- provide
local advocacy for legislation and government actions concerning
MBEs;
- provide
education and training to the MBEs and their current and potential
employees; and
- work
toward improving the economic and natural environments of the
communities where its members and their employees live.
NAMC-WI
membership
Membership
in NAMC-WI will allow you to network with other minority contractors,
procurement officials and others in the public and private sectors
that have an interest in working with minority contractors. Who
should join NAMC? Disadvantaged, minority, small-business and
women-owned construction business and any person or business
with an interest in the construction industry, including majority-led
contracting firms, suppliers, lenders, developers, manufacturers
and others.
We encourage
our members to participate by joining a committee.
Committees
include:
- Membership.
Responsible for planning membership recruiting efforts. Defines
and establishes the chapter's membership criteria.
- Finance
and budget. Responsible for funding and reporting duties connected
to the operational needs of NAMC-WI chapter. Planning, approval
and implementation of fund-raising efforts, grant solicitation
and proposal development.
- Legislation.
Monitoring and reporting on legislation affecting the concerns
and interests of NAMC-WI members. Promotes and advocates for
laws and other government actions on behalf of equitable business
opportunities.
- Nominating.
Responsible for selecting NAMC-WI members to represent the local
chapter at national association functions.
- Procurement.
Responsible for exploring, identifying and/or creating contract
procurement and business opportunities for MBEs. Assists with
marketing member firms statewide.
- Major
corporation program. Solicits major Wisconsin-area corporations
to enhance opportunities for minority contractors.
- Education/marketing.
Provides education and assistance to member firms in business
development, administrative and financial management, estimating,
project management, information systems and technical training
for employees of member firms.
- Mentor/protégé
program. Develops and cultivates affiliations with majority-owned
firms for the purpose of promoting relationships and joint ventures
with chapter members.
