What's
NECA?
The National
Electrical Contractors Association is a nationwide trade association
representing the electrical contracting industry. The association
provides management and technical services to NECA's 5,000-plus
members. As individuals, they generally cannot afford such a
wide range of services themselves. By sharing costs with others
within the association, member electrical contractors enjoy the
benefits of a fine trade association.
NECA
history
The Electrical
Contractors Association, the Milwaukee Chapter-NECA, was organized
in 1916 by electrical contractors in the Milwaukee area who recognized
the need for a strong association that could deal with their
common problems. In 1929, the local association became the second
chartered chapter of NECA.
Services
provided by Milwaukee NECA include: labor relations, marketing
aids, technical training, business management education, public
relations, government affairs, advertising and safety programs.
We're
proud of our rich history and tradition, but in today's fast-paced
world, successful organizations focus on the future. Milwaukee
NECA members and the association itself will continue to set
the standard for the industry. The men and women of NECA are
the industry's standard-bearers. Through their hard work and
effort, the association and its members are able to meet and
exceed industry goals.
What
makes neca contractors so special?
First
and foremost, Milwaukee NECA contractors are the most qualified
electrical contractors in the industry. Qualified electrical
NECA contractors:

full responsibility for the job
- Provide
an experienced management organization, including experts in
estimating, purchasing, engineering accounting and job supervision
- Provide
skilled electrical journeyman craftsmen trained to do a quality
installation
- Supply
properly selected, high-quality materials and schedule their
delivery for use in the appropriate place at the proper time
and in correct quantities
- Use time-saving
tools and equipment to the maximum efficiency and quality in
electrical installations
- Keep
informed of the most up-to-date techniques and materials
- Maintain
and improve the professional development of their management
staff to provide the highest quality service
- Know
the National Electrical Code and all state and local codes and
use them to guide their work
- Insist,
even beyond the code requirements, that all work meet or exceed
workplace standards to do the job right the first time, on budget
and on schedule

NECA activities
keep contractors informed, entertained - and busy
Milwaukee
NECA undertakes a busy meetings and events schedule. The association
holds regular evening membership meetings on the second Tuesday
of each month (September through May) at the Brookfield Midway
Hotel. These membership meetings include a social time, dinner,
association business agenda and a guest speaker, entertainment
or event. Kettle Moraine NECA members in Fond du Lac and Sheboygan
also meet monthly for dinner meetings at rotating locations on
the third Thursday of each month (September through May).
January's
membership meeting doubles as the Association's Annual Inspectors
Dinner, where NECA contractors invite electrical inspectors for
a social meeting and technical education presentation. In either
September or October, the meeting doubles as the annual Electrical
Construction Political Action Committee Auction. This rollicking
event auctions electrical equipment; Packers, Brewers, Badgers
and Bucks tickets; and sports memorabilia or other gift items
all donated by local construction vendors. The proceeds are given
to ECPAC to help advance electrical contracting and small-business
issues in Washington, D.C. This year's event, scheduled for Sept.
12, will feature WTMJ radio personality Jonathan Green as the
emcee and auctioneer.
The association
also holds luncheon meetings, usually in conjunction with an
afternoon technical seminar. The luncheon seminar has proved
to be tremendously popular with NECA members and their employees.
They can grab a sandwich, attend an informative seminar, earn
a few continuing education credits and still have time in the
late afternoon to get back to work.
Milwaukee
NECA is a leader in providing technical and management training.
NECA's technical seminar schedule offers up to 15 continuing
education credits each year on important topics like the National
Electrical Code, fire alarms and voice, data and video installations.
NECA's management training program is top shelf, too. These full-day
seminars have included training on estimating, change orders,
executive finance and the legal aspects of employee relations.
The association
keeps its members busy with meetings, luncheons, seminars and
social events with more than 30 events each year. And that doesn't
include committee and board meetings, district and regional meetings,
the Annual NECA Show & Convention, the Voice/Data/Video Expo
and the Annual Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C. NECA
works harder to make a contractor's job easier.
NECA
to distribute NEIS to local design professionals
NECA's
technical instruction is not just limited to its members and
their employees. This summer, NECA reached out to inspectors,
architects, engineers and other design professionals with a complimentary
National Electrical Installation Standards manual.
NEIS goes
well beyond what is required by code and is designed to improve
communication among specifiers, purchasers and suppliers of electrical
construction services. The standards define a minimum baseline
of quality and workmanship for installing electrical products
and services. Milwaukee NECA is distributing these manuals free
to the people who design and inspect our work. These manuals
define the industry standard in print, but in their daily work
NECA members have been setting the local industry standard of
quality workmanship for nearly 100 years.
