Mission

WTBA works proactively on behalf of our members to ensure strong investment in a high-quality, environmentally responsible, safe and efficient transportation network that serves the needs of Wisconsin.

Who we are

WTBA is a statewide trade association whose members are involved in the design, construction and maintenance of Wisconsin's transportation facilities.

With roots stretching back to 1912, WTBA today consists of 300 member companies located primarily in Wisconsin. They are contractors, consultants and a broad range of other firms that supply diverse products and services to the transportation construction community.

Recent Successes

Just a few of our recent achievements include:

Construction developments:

WTBA took a strong stand to ensure reasonable outcomes on contractor staking, the new federal disadvantaged business enterprise program and prompt-payment clause, and the revision of Part One Standard Specifications.

Advocacy:

WTBA provided a strong voice on the 2000-2001 biennial budget so that it would retain the significant highway program gains won in recent years and provide contractor immunity when dealing with contamination.

WTBA also played a key role in shaping state policies on local government programs, high-speed rail, land use and the state highway plan.

Environmental and safety activities:

WTBA worked hard to ensure reasonable transportation emissions budgets in southeastern Wisconsin so that highway projects could continue on schedule. WTBA also worked successfully for automatic reclamation permits, borrow pits, full-liability exemption for contractors using recycled materials and reasonable WPDES permit requirements.

Benefits of membership

WTBA works to ensure a favorable business environment for the transportation construction industry. Our services include:

Government - and public-relations efforts to vigorously promote our industry's interests to state and federal government decisionmakers.

We also promote public understanding and support for sound transportation programs.

Engineering services to ensure uniform interpretation of specifications, effective processing of claims and good construction practices.

Safety and regulatory services to keep members up to date with the latest rules and to help develop a reasonable regulatory framework.
