Design-Build Institute of America
This association site offers design-build project owners and practitioners a wealth of resources, including ongoing educational courses, extensive publications library, several newsletters and design-build conference information. Membership, ranging from $500-$7,500 annually, provides access to members-only sections of the site, as well as a host of discounts and member benefits.
Contract Documents
The Associated General Contractors of America offers a package of contract documents for design/build projects, including a preliminary design/build agreement between an owner and contractor, along with agreement forms between the contractor and owner, architect/engineer and subcontractor. The forms are available from the AGC, as are reference manuals on design/build. The AGC may be reached at 202-393-2040.
American Institute of Architects Contract Documents
The American Institute of Architects' family of documents includes agreements between designer/builder and owner (both preliminary and final agreements), between designer/builder and contractor, and between designer/builder and architect.
Design Build Institute of America
The Design Build Institute of America offers its family of documents by itself or as part of its manual of practice, which also includes basic definitions, selection procedures, project execution checkpoints, tenets of professional ethics, risk management guidelines, licensure data, and regulatory and legal information.
ASCE Joint Contract Documents Committee Contract Documents
The American Society of Civil Engineers Engineers Joint Contract Documents Committee has its package of contract documents available that specifically address different arrangements of contracting for design/build services.
General Resources
If you're interested in residential design/build, this site is worth a visit. It offers a vendor directory, a variety of articles on construction details, a house plans gallery and a small shopping area to purchase design/build books.
Billing itself as "The Online Resource to Locate Design, Building and Decorating Professionals, Products and Services, Nationally and Locally," this site offers visitors an interesting selection of content choices, including a design/build bulletin board; request for proposal service; project portfolio creator and a business background check service. Membership is free.
Magazines
This online magazine posts all of its print content for free and offers users several value-added services such as live chat, message boards and a project gallery. Membership is free for those wishing to add the publication to their Internet Explorer channel bar or Netscape Netcaster service.
McGraw Hill's Construction.com plays host to this publication, which offers select feature articles from the print version. Topics are comprehensive and each online issue offers access to 2-3 features and department items. Subscriptions to the print publication are $40.00.
