New
technologies to speed up the building of a new landmark at State
Fair Park.
New
methods of harnessing the power of geographic information systems.
New
approaches to regional issues, from transportation challenges
to health-care costs.
New
Internet-based solutions to improve service to legal clients around
the world.
New
ways to build a bridge without damaging nearby ecosystems.
And
there's more new partnerships that help keep kids in troubled
neighborhoods in school ... or train them to become engineers
... and, yes, just like the metaphor about the light turning on,
an innovative new design for a better, brighter light bulb.
When
the editors of The Daily Reporter and the Wisconsin Law Journal
went looking for innovators to honor in our first Innovator of
the Year awards program, they didn't have to look far. Our readers
throughout Wisconsin, our industries, the communities we serve,
provided story after story, case after case of great ideas
like the light bulb going on turned into great innovations.
As
you'll read in the pages of this special program, our finalists
for Innovator of the Year each demonstrated not only imagination
and vision and the ability to see a need and fill it
but the stamina to turn their innovation into reality. They created
new products, services, programs or processes that have had positive
effects on their businesses, industries or communities. We know
you'll find their stories at the very least intriguing, but, more
likely, inspirational.
We
congratulate and thank them for their work.
Many
thanks to all of the nominators, those who came forward to let
us know of these builders and creators. The 2002 Innovator of
the Year awards program was also given great support from a diverse
collection of business, construction and law associations, along
with a variety of Wisconsin businesses. By doing so, they support
not only an awards program but the spirit of innovation in Wisconsin.
