Associated General Contractors of Greater Milwaukee

It's a transitional time of year for the construction industry. Here at the Associated General Contractors, it's no different. As we get ready to turn up the heat for the summer busy season, we tend to reflect on what has been accomplished so far. That is what happens every year at this time at the AGC's Past President's Night.

Not only does the industry recognize its business leaders at this prestigious gathering, but the industry leaders in the field of safety are also honored. The Milwaukee Construction Industry Safety Council also awards the contractors representing their respective associations. The MCISC is comprised of many different trade associations. They include not only the AGC, but the Master Builders Association of Wisconsin, the Mason Contractors Association of Milwaukee, the Eastern Wisconsin Erectors Association, the Acoustical Contractors Association of Milwaukee, the Floor Coverers Association of Southeastern Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Insulation Contractors Association, the Metropolitan Builders Association of Greater Milwaukee, the Residential Union Carpentry Contractors Association, the Plumbing and Mechanical Contractors Association of Milwaukee and Southeastern Wisconsin, and the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors Association of Milwaukee. The Allied Construction Employers Association and its Industry Advancement Program contributors are also represented on the council. As you can see, the MCISC represents nearly all phases of the construction industry.

At this year's Past President's Night, many of these associations will acknowledge the best when it comes to safety. The following is a list of those contractors who have excelled.

All of these contractors have distinguished themselves as the "best of the best" in our local market when it comes to safety. Our congratulations to all the winners!

That's the congratulations. Now where are the "offers"?

Here at the AGC we are preparing to offer more safety training than ever before. Now that's a feat even we have to work at! Forthcoming will be a battery of training classes geared to fit any training need. You'll see things like the old standbys and brand new topics. Not only will we be offering the standard OSHA 10-hour course in construction, the first aid/CPR certifications and the forklift operator training that have been mainstays, but new products are on the slate.

Sometimes contractors can't give up their crews for full 10 hours of training. They still realize the need for training so they have asked us to come up with something else. That's why we're introducing our Certificate Programs. These shorter, more topical offerings are designed to hit audiences in quick, short spurts in order to get them back on the job quickly to use their skills. We are excited about our new products and hope employers will take advantage of them. Following is a list of the safety training being offered through the AGC for the second half of 2001. All classes will be held at the AGC offices at 2600 N. Mayfair Road in Milwaukee.

  • May 15, Forklift Operator Training (Rough Terrain), 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.

  • June 4 and 6, Basic First Aid/CPR Training, 4:30 to 8:30 p.m.

  • Aug. 9, Forklift Operator Training (Rough Terrain), 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.

  • Aug. 28, Drawing OSHA's Attention, 7 to 9 a.m.
