Miron reinvents itself for clients

Miron Construction Co. Inc. was founded in 1918 as a small general contracting firm.

The Neenah-based company, which holds the top spot on the general contractors A List this month, isn’t small any longer. Since Miron’s inception, it has grown into a firm that does hundreds of millions of dollars in work each year.

Most of Miron’s work is done within Wisconsin, primarily in the health care, education and industrial sectors. While much larger now, the company is stillfamily owned, with the third and fourth generations now working there.

Much of Miron’s growth has taken place in the past few decades, said Corey Brumbaugh, Miron’s vice president of business development.

“The major growth didn’t take place until the 1980s and ’90s,” he said. “We’re a Midwest-based construction firm with a more national focus as of late.”

Recently, he said, that growth is based on Miron’s new approach to building design. The company’s leadership team decided to look at how to tailor the design/build operation to customers’ individual needs.

“We have people at our firm analyzing how the business operates,” Brumbaugh said, “and we can recommend designs to make the business more profitable.”

Miron looks closely at how a building will be used and designs the building around its function. The company gets involved as early as possible and works closely with the customer to develop the plan.

Now, “the actual construction is the simpler aspect,” Brumbaugh said. “We try to make a connection with that firm from a relationship standpoint.

“If it’s a medical office, we’ll look at how a patient will interact with them. We’re taking a completely new initiative to analyze business structures.”
The result is good for everyone, he said. Clients have a building that helps them work better, and Miron has satisfied customers.

“Our goal is to make a better, more profitable company,” he said. “It’s a better customer experience with increased profitability because it increases productivity through the layout of the building.”

The process has translated into “resounding references,” he said.

“We care about what they do,” Brumbaugh said, “and they see the rewards when they’re in the new or renovated building.

“We’re bringing a whole new level of professionalism to the construction industry.”
