Great Lakes Roofing Corp., Germantown, won a 2006 Wisconsin Corporate Safety Award from the Wisconsin Council of Safety and the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development for the company’s safety and health record. … Patti Cahill, director of marketing for Stevens Point-based Ellis Stone Construction Co., won the Community Service Award from the Associated General Contractors of Wisconsin for her work in the community beyond the normal course of business. Cahill helped establish a drug- and alcohol-free home for men in recovery in Portage County, and she’s involved in a variety of organizations, from the United Way of Portage County to Big Brothers/Big Sisters.

Edward Hayden, Merton, died July 6 of undisclosed causes. Hayden, 58, was the executive director of the Allied Construction Employers Association and had worked for the group for the past 10 years. Before that, Hayden worked as the safety director for the Associated General Contractors of Greater Milwaukee for 20 years. … Robert D. Castleman, Lake Geneva, died July 9 in a car accident. Castleman, 65, was the owner of B&J Tree & Landscape Service Inc., Lake Geneva. … Thomas “Mac” Slater, Milwaukee, died July 14 of complications from a lung infection. Slater, 76, joined the firm that would later be called Kahler Slater Architects Inc., Milwaukee, in 1956. Slater, a partner with David Kahler in the firm, retired in 1996.
